Once you have your Joomla website installed and ready to use, one of the first items of business is adding your own content. With Joomla, this process is easy and can be done
in just a few short steps.
First, log into your Joomla administrator portal and mouse-over the menu called ‘Content’. Within this drop-down mouse-over the first menu item called ‘Article Manager’.
Another flyout menu will show called, ‘Add New Article’. Click onto this option.
The page that comes up (Article Manager: Add New Article) is where you will create a new article and assign this article specific option settings unique to this specific article. First you will want to create a title, assign this article to a specific category and adjust this article’s setting (right hand side) to your needs. Once this is done, you are ready to type in your article inside the ‘Article Text’ (text editor) area.
Once completed, click onto the ‘Save & Close’ icon (top right) and your masterpiece will be saved into the Joomla database and you will be taken to the main ‘Article Manager: Articles’ page.
This is where all of your existing Joomla articles are located and by default it shows the most recent articles first. At this point you will want to assign this article as a new menu item for the
world to enjoy.
To do this, mouse-over ‘Menus’ and scroll down to ‘Main Menu’ where you will see a flyout menu called ‘Add New Menu Item’ and mouse click on this item.
You will be taken to the Menu Manager: New Menu Item page and here is where you will assign your article to a Joomla menu and set the different options available to you for this specific menu item.
First let’s click onto ‘Select’ (Step 1) from the ‘Menu Item Type’ (top left) and select what will be associated to this menu item. For this tutorial, we want to select ‘Single Article’ from the popup box.
Next we want to choose what article we want associated with this menu by clicking onto the ‘Select / Change’ (Step 2) button on the right hand side of your screen. When this is clicked a popup box will come up showing you a complete list of available articles to choose from. Scroll through this list a select the article you just created.
At this point you will want to type in your ‘Menu Title’ (Step 3) and finally tell this menu where to reside within your menu tree from the ‘Parent Item’ drop-down option (Step 4).
To complete this process, click onto either ‘Save’ or ‘Save & Close’. When you visit your website’s frontend you will see this new menu item where you just assigned it.
Please Note: This tutorial is nothing more then showing you how to create a new article and assign it as a new menu item. There are a host of specific options in both the New
Article and New Menu section you just created that will allow you to fine-tune your article & menu presentation. All of these settings are optional and do not require you to
adjust them just to create a new article or new menu item.
