how to create a fixed/ sticky footer?

dear all, i would like to have a footer on my homepage/ main "home", which does not move and stays in at the bottom of the page, what do i need to change and do to achieve this? which files in a template? and what exactly do i need to change/ add/ replace? any help and guidance would be appreciated. i have been trying tutorials and help guides for 2 weeks with no success.
