I am trying to place a different template on a sub domain, similar to how you have your Demo Templates set up. How do you do this? Is there a Component,or a Bridge that allows you to have totally different Templates on sub domains?
I am thinking you do not have a separate Admin Panel for each of your Template Demos. Can you explain how this is done?

The demo server uses a frame, similar to the wrapper found in Joomla. Using templates on sub domains is not possible in Joomla. You can however, assign different templates to different sections of your site.

Thanks for your reply Sariel, Can you explain how to do this, Using a different template in a separate section. So if I understand you correctly, I can just use the wrapper to do this?

In Joomla! Administration:

Joomla 1.0. :
On the top menu:
Go to Site>Template Manager>Site Template: Select the template you want to use. Check the button and click on Assign. Select the pages you want to assign the template to and click save.

Joomla 1.5. :
To assign a different template to a Category or section in Joomla 1.5. You Have to go to Extenstions>Template Manager> Double clink on the template name. On Menu Assignment check select from list. Than pick the section or sections from the menu items you what the template assigned to. Click on save, and thats it.

To Install on a Subdomain:
You would have to install a second copy of Joomla on the subdomain. That is if you are using Joomla on your main domain. And create a database or new database. Its installed the same way as you installed Joomla. That is if you already installed Joomla.
Exp. my.subdomain.com .

Here are instructions for Joomla 1.0.x, Ill write up a FAQ on this topic.

Joomla 1.0.x

Install your template as normal and through the admin backend go to Site > Template Manager.
Select the template you wish to use, and at the top right of the screen click on assign. Select the menu item you wish to assign the template too. Say for example you want to assign it too the homepage and a section called web links. While holding the control key down, select both the home and web links menu items and then click save. That will then assign the template to those two menu items only.

Now if you wanted to assign the same template with a different colour scheme to other sections of your site, you need to make a minor modification to the templateDetails.xml. Unzip your mytemplates.zip archive to the desktop and open the file named templateDetails.xml in your text editor. Look for this line: <name>....</name> Change the name to something easily identifiable and save. Re-zip the package again.

Install the template as normal and repeat the same steps as before, to assign the template to other sections of your site.

Thanks again Sariel, This is easy enough,I did not notice this in the Template Manager. I am using 1.5, I am still trying to figure it out. This is only the second website that I have built using Joomla, The last one was 1.0.
This is why I like Joomla ,as there is so much support from the Community. Its the people like you guys here at Youjoomla, that make Joomla the best CMS in the world. For the Noobs like myself, when you get to that \How do I do that?\ point of the process, it is definitely appreciated. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction, Sariel. Can I mail you a Beer?
