Did you install the demo like a regular installation of Joomla? Or did you install Joomla first than tried to install the demo? Read this post.

NOTE: Why dont you try staying online for more than a minute when Im trying to help!

ok, I installed joomla_demo15 as a regular installation followed the video tutorial step by step (I received the xml error) and went into phpMyAdmin to add sample_data.sql with all the instances replaced with jos_ i still get the following error:

-- phpMyAdmin SQL Dump
-- version 2.10.1
-- http://www.phpmyadmin.net
-- Host: localhost
-- Generation Time: Mar 27, 2008 at 08:37 PM
-- Server version: 5.0.45
-- PHP Version: 5.2.5

#1193 - Unknown system variable SQL_MODE

During the installation on display errors it is recommended as off but for me it is on!?

How come every time I go to your site I get a message?

You will not be able to proceed beyond this point until the installation directory is removed. This is a security feature of Joomla!.
Click here when the directory has been removed.

Ive been watching you as you try to install the demo. It seems like you install it and then wait several hours to finish the installation process.

I found out what is probably causing your problems. You need to contact your web hosting provider and tell them you need an Mysql5 database for your site. Right now you are using Mysql4. You need an Mysql5 database to install the Demo. Also ask them which version of php are they using. Tell them to upgrade the php version to php.5 if they are using php4.

I have the same problem as the member that presented this issue. I am new to the community
but I need this help to be able to set up my hosting website.

From the reply you gave on has to use a database mysql5, but the joomla recommended
database is different. Please help me solve this issue. The problem occured when I tried
to import the sql sample data for the demo site. How can I import the data without
problems? The site I am working on is http://www.tymhosting.com/index.php

Have your Hosting Provider help you upgrade to the MYsql5 data base and PHP5 version.
